Flying the flag high for the Worcester League were our very own premier and county champions Callow End as they travelled to Nottingham to face Eastwood FC in the national Sunday FA Cup. It’s the first time the league has been represented and unfortunately it wasn’t to be on this occasion as Eastwood rolled out 2-0 victors. Well done to all involved at Callow End and no doubt you’ll go again next season.
Continuing their fine form from last week were Perrywood who annihilated their opposition, a weakened Bromsgrove Bartley Green Owls FC 24-1! in the first round of the Nursing Junior. As you would expect there were multiple goal scorers, Kyle Belmonte (6), Kyonn Evans (4), James Baldwin (4), Kyonn Evans (3), Zaqib Hussain (3), Garry Price (2), Simon Vaughan and Aaron Drake. A hat trick from Brad Morton guided Express Falcons through with a comfortable 4-2 win over Hizza United. Having not played for four weeks, FC Malvern also secured their place in the next round with a 3-1 win over Northside. A brace from Cello Brandinad Dias wasn’t enough for visitor’s PT Eagles as Eaton fought back from 0-2 to down to go through 4-2 on penalties. It was a rare goal from the veteran and former striker, now centre back, Rob Rousltone (with a U), that began the Eaton revival. Unfortunately, Clifton and FC Korono failed to progress after they both lost on penalties to Bromsgrove league opposition.
In the Nursing Junior, Worcester Saint Res bagged 7 without reply as they hammered Lower Teme & Martley Reserves. Braces a piece for AFC Brickfields Josh Saunders and Brandon Beasant ensured a place in the next round over Redditch Borough as they rolled out 6-0 winners. Blackpole Sports swept aside Perdiswell Colts 6-1 and Malvern Radar were 2-0 victors over British Memorial. A single strike from Drakes Broughton Reserves Jermaine Kujeke was enough to beat GDL Athletic 1-0. Droitwich Spa Eagles beat Worcester City Wanderers 2-0 thanks to goals from Connor Shepheard and Andre da Silva Almeida. Spa Eagles Reserves also went through, but it took them penalties after drawing 3-3 with Worcester Saints. Not so lucky today was Perrywood Res, Eaton Res, Droitwich Spa BGFC Rovers and Grosvenor Sports who all crashed out against external league opposition.
Back to the league and Fernhill Heath Athletic took advantage of the surrounding cup action as they smashed 7 passed Arrow, without reply, to go top of the Premier. A double from Toby Attwood wasn’t enough for Oak Apple who were held 3-3 and prevented from going top by bottom side Worcester Athletic. The Bell had a first half lead through Allan Robinson, but it wasn’t to be as St Johns fought back in the second half to win 1-2.
Pillar FC continued their good start to the season as they thrashed Colwall St James 9-1 to cement themselves top of division one. 7 goal scorers in total with Masan Hall and Luke Rainbow scoring a brace each. Scoring isn’t a problem for Lower Teme & Martley, but their poor form continued as they lost 3-6 to visitors FC United of Worcester. Joe Bates and Sam Hayes both on the score sheet twice for United.
