WORCESTER LEAGUE ROUND UP - 18 FEBRUARY

It needed two battling comebacks from Sebright Arms to keep their McDonald’s Worcester & District Football League Division 4 title hopes alive, in their clash at Malvern Radar Youth. Radar led 3-1 and 4-2 but Sebright came storming back to win 5-4. Glen Sitch hit a hat-trick for Sebright with Mike Jeffries and Scott Kinchin also on target. Radar’s goals came from Kieran Smith, Alex Doyle, Matt Glover and Tom Lincoln. In the same division there were goals galore at New Inn Sports (Malvern), where Droitwich Spa Eagles Reserves triumphed 8-5. Gavin Wood found the net four times for Eagles with Andy Harvey adding a hat-trick. Dave Jones fired a treble and Luke Arnold a double for New Inn. Elsewhere, a single strike from Connor Grant gave Spa Rovers victory over Drakes Broughton Rangers Reserves to maintain their two point lead at the top of the table. Darren Palmer grabbed an 89th minute winner for Grosvenor Sports who won 3-2 at Lower Teme & Martley Reserves. Ashley Palmer and Josh Farnsworth were also on the score sheet for Grosvenor, Dan Juckes and Tom Judge replying for Martley. 

In the Premier division, leaders Hallow won 4-1 at Northside with goals from Kyonn Evans (2), Kyle Belmonte and Zaq Hussain. Callow End beat Drakes Broughton Rangers 4-2, Jon Murphy notching a double for Callow End with Scott Finnegan and Nick Macpherson also on target. Strikes from Dave Lawrence and Dave Reynolds gave The Gloster Arms a 2-1 home win over New Inn Athletic. Liam Ridings bagged two for Upton Snodsbury, 4-2 winners against FC Malvern, Ryan Pugh and Darren Critcher also on the score sheet. 

Prince of Wales still lead division one, Chris Cornes netting twice as they won 3-1 at Arrow. Clifton Rovers clinched three points at fellow challengers St Johns, courtesy of an 80th minute own goal from Dominic Rudge. Clifton had earlier taken the lead through Will Griffiths with Danny Hall equalizing for the Saints. Fernhill Heath kept up their challenge, Mike Cox notching a double in their 5-1 success at Hallow Village. Goals from Ryan Berrey and Greg Lord gave The Bell a narrow 2-1 win at Claines. 

FC Korono have a four point lead at the top of division 2, Julian Hopcraft and Rob Cox their scorers as they beat Pershore Town Eagles 2-0. Eaton moved into second place after a last minute win at Hornets. It was an eventful match for Hornets Andy Woodward who scored for both teams, including the unfortunate 90th minute winner. Elsewhere Malvern Vale beat Kempsey Colts United 3-1, Sean Smith scoring twice. Colwall St James had a comfortable 4-1 victory over Northwick Saints, Ben Ledbury, Oliver Smith, Ahmed Nasser and Connor Millar all on the score sheet. 

Masons and Express Falcons are level on 24 points at the top of division 3, although Falcons have two games in hand. Nathan Henton cracked a hat-trick as Falcons won 4-1 at Powick. Masons beat Lower Teme & Martley by the same score line, with goals from Brett Mould, Luke Rainbow, Sam Sanders and Harry Burchell. Meanwhile Adam Ellis and Alex Kolb netted for Droitwich Spa Eagles who won 2-1 at GDL Athletic. 

AFC Mazak are through to the quarter-finals of the Kilbourne Kay Cup, Scott Howitt grabbing the only goal of their game at Star & Garter. 

Colwall Wanderers won a penalty shoot-out against Worcester Saints to reach the semi-finals of the Bernard Finnegan Cup where they will play Perdiswell Colts.


WORCESTER LEAGUE ROUND UP - 11 FEBRUARY

There was a major shock in the quarter-finals of the McDonald’s Worcester & District Football League Baylis Cup, where Premier division basement boys FC Malvern beat The Gloster Arms 2-1. Jack Parker and Jack Shemwell were on target for Malvern, Matt Brookes replying for the Gloster. Meanwhile, a giant-killing act was on the cards at St Johns, where the Division One title challengers were holding cup favourites Callow End to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes. However the Saints ran out of steam in extra-time as the visitors took control to win 5-1. Matt Andrews (2), Ash Millard, Adam Webb and Joe Wood were the Callow End scorers. Hallow also needed extra-time, before going through 5-2 against Upton Snodsbury, after a 2-2 score line in normal time. Kyle Belmonte hit a hat-trick for Hallow with Ben Harbourne and Zaq Hussain also on the score sheet. Chris Allen and Ryan Pugh netted for Upton. Perrywood completed the semi-final line–up with a 3-1 win at New Inn Athletic, Gavin Podmore scoring twice. The Wood will play FC Malvern for a place in the final with fierce rivals Hallow and Callow End contesting the other semi-final. 

The quarter-finals of the Southam Trophy saw Callum Morris firing a hat-trick for Lower Teme & Martley who beat Arrow 4-1. Worcester Athletic strolled through 5-1 at Northwick Saints, Macauley Austin notching a double. Hornets had a surprise 2-1 victory over high flying Eaton, Jacob Whittall netting both their goals. FC Korono are the other semi-finalists after a 4-1 win at Colwall St James, with strikes from Jack Hancock, Tom Groves, Joe Wood and Charlie Hooman. 

Mike Cox and Lewis Barson gave Fernhill Heath Athletic a 2-0 win against The Bell in the Katherine Rayer Cup and they will meet Drakes Broughton Rangers in the semi-finals. 

In the Kilbourne Kay Cup quarter-finals, Malvern Vale defeated Powick 3-1, Luke Bailey, Joe Dallow and Daniel Hunt their scorers. Pershore Town Eagles had a narrow 2-1 win over Warndon Villages with goals from Aaron Northall and Luke O’Sullivan. Matt McClatchy and Dan Harris gave Worcester City Wanderers a 2-1 extra-time victory at Kempsey Colts United. 

Back in the League, Division 3 title contenders Express Falcons romped home 9-1 at Brewers Saints. Brad Morton cracked a treble and Josh Benson-Smith a double. Masons kept up their challenge with a 5-1 success at GDL Athletic, Josh Bowen smashing a hat-trick. 

Colwall Wanderers are the new Division 4 leaders after a comprehensive 7-2 win at Worcester Saints. Ben Miller hit a hat-trick with Lewis Williams adding a brace. Elsewhere strikes from Tom Coultas-Morton and Ben Ladds saw Drakes Broughton Rangers Reserves beat Malvern radar Youth 2-1. Lower Teme & Martley Reserves won 3-1 at New Inn Sports (Malvern), James Francis, Ollie Eggleton and Dan Juckes their scorers.
