On a somber day for the McDonald’s Worcester & District Football League, in which all clubs observed a minutes silence for popular long serving Arrow F.C. Secretary and Management Committee member, Brian Poyner, who died suddenly on Saturday, three of the League’s teams reached the semi-finals of the WFA Sunday Premier Cup.

The clash of the titans at Callow End, saw the home team go 2-0 down to their fierce rivals Hallow, Kyle Belmonte and Tiago Ribiero on target for the visitors. However Nick Macpherson and Matty Andrews then brought the scores level and the tie went to a penalty shootout. The spot kicks were won 4-1 by Callow End, with Joel Hobbs, Matt Murphy, Reece Bufton and Macpherson all converting their individual kicks.

A six goal thriller saw The Gloster Arms and Drakes Broughton Rangers level at 3-3 after 90 minutes, before Rangers went through 4-2 on penalties. Matt Greenwood hit a normal time hat-trick for Rangers with Luke Badham, Joe Endacott and Aaron Richards on target for the Gloster.

Perrywood are the League’s third representative in the semi-finals, John Pykett and veteran Nick Pearce their scorers in an excellent 2-0 win at Stourport Swifts.

Clifton Rovers and FC Korono both went out of the Junior Cup at the third round stage, but Express Falcons are through to the semi-finals of the Minor Cup, defeating Broadway United Reserves 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 score line at the end of ninety minutes.

In the Premier division, a single strike from Chris Ridings gave Upton Snodsbury victory at FC Malvern.

In Division One, despite their sad loss, Arrow bravely turned out against Fernhill Heath Athletic, but not surprisingly went down 7-0 to their second placed opponents. Luke Molloy cracked a hat-trick for Fernhill Heath. Elsewhere Adam Whitehead fired a treble for Worcester Athletic who won 4-3 at Claines and goals from Elliot Brown, Jack Eaton, Greg Lord, Allan Robinson and Tai Brown gave The Bell a 5-2 home win over Hallow Village.

Eaton moved to within one point of division 2 leaders Korono, Carlos Santos and Paulo Anacleto on the score sheet as they beat Colwall St James 2-0. Meanwhile there were doubles for Dan Hearne of Star & Garter who crushed Kempsey Colts United 5-1 and Matt McClatchy in Worcester City Wanderers 4-0 win against Hornets.

Masons won their division 3 local derby with Freemasons Arms 4-1, Sam Sanders notching a hat-trick. Kieran Smith grabbed the only goal of the game as Powick beat Droitwich Spa Eagles.

The race for the division 4 title is hotting up with the top three teams all winning. Leaders Spa Rovers had a narrow 3-2 win over Worcester Saints, Jordan Fox scoring twice. Ben Miller and Tom Watkins both bagged a brace as Colwall Wanderers thumped Grosvenor Sports 6-1 and Shane Shallcross netted a double in Sebright Arms 5-1 success at Droitwich Spa Eagles Reserves.

Perdiswell Colts are through to the semi-finals of the Bernard Finnegan Cup, Martin Fowler and Oliver Leach on target as they beat GDL Athletic 2-0. Brewers Saints won their first round Phipps Cup tie against Eaton Reserves, Neil Radburn grabbing the only goal of the game.
