WORCESTER LEAGUE ROUND UP - 14 JANUARY

Sunday 14 January, 2018

There was a shock result at Express Falcons where the McDonald’s Worcester & District Football League Division 3 leaders lost their unbeaten record to Droitwich Spa Eagles who won 3-1. Dan Allcock, Adam Ellis and Zbigniew Smieszala were on target for the Eagles, Chris Williams replying for Falcons. Second placed AFC Mazak took full advantage of Falcons slip up, with a crushing 8-1 win at Brewers Saints. Jack Martin netted five times with Ben Yates, George Martin and Jamie Owens also on the score sheet. Mazak are now just one point behind Falcons with a game in hand. Elsewhere goals from Luke Rainbow and Adam Rea gave Masons a 2-1 victory at Powick. Martin Fowler hit a hat-trick for Perdiswell Colts who thumped Freemasons Arms 5-1.

In the Premier division, Callow End dropped their first points of the season, Perrywood holding them to a 1-1 draw. Joe Wood gave Callow End a first half lead with Scott Gaffney snatching a 92nd minute equalizer for the Wood. FC Malvern won 2-1 at Drakes Broughton Rangers, Toby Boswell and Jack Shemwell their scorers. The Gloster Arms strolled to a 5-1 victory at Upton Snodsbury, Sam Rathbone notching a double with Andy Fletcher, Harry Wickett and Luke Badham also on target.

Division One leaders Prince of Wales went down 2-0 at home to Fernhill Heath Athletic, George Coley and Joe Barson both finding the net for Fernhill Heath. With games in hand, Clifton Rovers are probably favourites for the title and they beat Arrow 3-1 with strikes from James Martine, Josh Stafford and James Green. Meanwhile St Johns kept their title hopes alive, Jamie Wharf cracking a hat-trick as they defeated Claines 3-1. A single strike from Adam Whitehead gave Worcester Athletic victory over The Bell.

The match of the day in division 2 saw leaders FC Korono lose their one hundred per cent record, being held to a goal less draw by Malvern Vale. A brace from Paul Jones saw Eaton win 2-0 at Northwick Saints to go second, four points behind Korono, with the two teams meeting next weekend.

Colwall Wanderers are still second in division 4, Ben Miller (2) and Matt Rooke on target in their 3-0 home win over Drakes Broughton Rangers Reserves. Worcester Saints moved into third place, Mark Underhill and Matt Stock both firing trebles as they crushed New Inn Sports (Malvern) 8-3. Highest scorers of the day were Droitwich Spa Eagles Reserves who thrashed Eaton Reserves 10-1. Gavin Wood netted four times, Simon Jones grabbed a hat-trick and Andy Harvey added a brace.

New Inn Athletic are through to the quarter-finals of the Baylis Cup after an excellent 2-1 win at Northside. Neil Grubb and a 30 yard screamer from Steve Jeffries sealed victory.
